Sabaudia (LT), Italy
Client: Comune di Sabaudia
With: Manlio Paradisi
Sabaudia is a small town south of Rome, 80km from the capital. Its peculiarity is that it is one of the few foundation cities (built from scratch) created during the 20th century. It is one of the best examples of Italian rationalism. Over the years, Milk Train has been commissioned to design various public spaces, from the belvedere overlooking the lake, to the docks for rowing enthusiasts, from the kiosks for refreshments to the shading systems for the summer sailing school, from the multifunctional furnishings of the central square to a small open-air theatre for the cultural programming of the summer season. Each project was approached by looking for points of contact with the aesthetics and history of the area, whether they were the decorative motifs of the foundation buildings or the shapes and technologies of the “lestre”, the temporary huts that were self-built by shepherds during the transhumance, before the foundation of the city.
